Entering Return D2 Data - Property Stolen by Classification

After the classifications and valuations of Stolen Property are determined, monthly figures can be entered on Return D2.  The data entry form for Return D2 follows the layout of the FBI standard paper return.

The Return D2 screen consists of two parts, "Property Stolen by Classification" and "Additional Analysis of Larceny and Motor Vehicle Theft". These parts require entry of two statistics: "Number of Actual Offenses" and "Value of Property Stolen". These statistics are entered in two columns.

For the "Property Stolen by Classification" part of the form, the statistics are entered by Offense. You should make sure that all of the data collected for the Offense being entered is present before entering the next Offense or moving to the next data entry page. The Offenses applicable for this form are listed down the left side of the form. Navigation between columns can be accomplished by using the Tab key to move to the next column for which you have data, or using the mouse.

The total of Offenses for each Category have been entered based on the information you entered on Return A (Monthly Count of Offenses Known to Police).  Break each total out into its appropriate sub-Categories.  The numbers you enter must equal the total for that Category.  Also, enter the value of any stolen property for each sub-Category as applicable. If there are no statistics for a column, it can be left blank and the system will fill the column with zero during processing.

Repeat the above process for all Offenses for which you have statistics to record. Please note that all Total lines will be calculated by the system and you will not be able to enter data into these lines.

The "Additional Analysis of Larceny and Motor Vehicle Theft" has two categories of statistics to be entered: "Nature of Larcenies" and "Motor Vehicles Recovered" part of the form. The statistics are entered by sub-categories for each of these categories. You should make sure that all of the data collected for the sub-category being entered is present before entering the next sub-category or moving to the next data entry page. The sub-categories applicable for this form are listed down the left side of the form. Navigation between columns can be accomplished by using the Tab key to move to the next column for which you have data, or using the mouse. If there are no statistics for a column, it can be left blank and the system will fill the column with zero during processing.

Three links are available to allow you to control the data entry process. At any time during the data input, Help for the completion of Return C is available by clicking on the "Need Help?" link on the bottom of the page.  Clicking on the  "Save Submission" link will save all statistics entered up to that point, in the event you are not able to complete entering all statistics for the current month's submission in one session.  Finally, clicking the "Continue" link will signal the system that you have completed entering Return C statistics.  The system will verify the data that has been entered, and return any errors for correction before moving to the next screen.

Note on screen navigation: The UCR system does not always provide direct access to the Supplementary Report of Offense (Return D1) screen from the Stolen Property by Classification (Return D2) screen. If you encounter this situation, use the link provided on the Submission Confirmation screen to access the Return D1 screen.
